Planes unusually empty

Summary

The unusual emptiness of the hijacked flights may indicate some attempt to minimize the loss of life, which clearly would not have been a concern of real terrorists but might conceivably have been a concern of US agents orchestrating the attack.

What are the odds that four transcontinental flights on two major airlines -- American 77 and 11, United 175 and 93 -- would have 78, 74, 81, and 84 percent of their seats empty, respectively, on September 11, 2001? This came at a time when many airlines were trying to save money by overbooking and canceling flights that were not full.

Analysis

If this information is accurate, it does seem quite unusual for the flights to be so empty. On the other hand, it doesn't make that much sense. The US government is willing to grab planes and slam them into buildings, but they want to make sure the flights aren't full? You'd think they might have given a heads-up to the World Trade Center in that case and said hey, you might want to show up late to work on Tuesday. I guess it's somewhat suspicous, if it's even true.

Bottom line, me, I give it:

somewhat suspicioussomewhat suspicious
