Summary
There are supposed to be anti-aircraft missiles protecting the Pentagon and White House that fire automatically at anything coming too close that isn't emitting a "friendly" signal from its transponder. So either the missile system didn't work, or it doesn't exist, or maybe it did work, and the thing that hit it was emitting a friendly signal.

Analysis
I'd like to get some additional, authoritative confirmation about these supposed anti-aircraft or anti-missile defenses at the Pentagon. It's often asserted, but by whom? I'd like to hear it from a Pentagon source, ideally. Somebody definitively in the know. Still, having said that, it's pretty easy to believe that the Pentagon ought to have some defenses. The Pentagon! And this evidence is compounded by the lack of fighter jets even with an extremely long notification time. I've gotta say, all in all, the defenselessness of the Pentagon is rather suspicious.

I totally believe DOD had no defense at all to an attack on the White House or Pentagon. I'm especially skeptical that an automatic gun exists.

I don't know if I believe it or not. It seems like a pretty good idea to have some kind of defense of your war headquarters, no? It's not like these guys aren't paranoid enough. They're always on about missile defense aren't they? These are the ultimate gun nuts...surely a few big ones around the office would make them feel pretty good?
