Summary
Larry Silverstein
In the PBS documentary "America Rebuilds", WTC leaseholder Larry Silverstein is on video saying: "I remember getting a call from the, er, fire department commander, telling me they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, 'We've had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it.' And they made that decision to pull and we watched the building collapse."
The term 'pull' is evidently industry slang for controlled demolition, as evidenced by a cleanup worker in the same documentary who refers to the December demolition of WTC Building 6 when he says, "...we're getting ready to pull Building Six." I've read "debunker" material where they say there's no evidence that "pull" is industry slang for demolition. But, there is that demolition guy in the video, using the phrase, so, I mean, make up your own mind I guess.
The Silverstein statement seems a blatant 'oops.' It triggered much comment and speculation, and he refused to say anything about it until 2005 when he told a NY Post reporter that he "meant something else" but refused to elaborate. In 2006 he said he meant 'pull' the contingent of firefighters out of the building...but there weren't any firefighters in the building.
